ORPHAN PROGRAMME

The main thrust of our position on orphans is to keep children in the extended family or local community. Adoption to unfamiliar families or placement in orphanages takes children out of their secure known environment at the height of their grief and loss.

Our aim is to:

  • Look for extended family members who, with financial, spiritual and emotional support could open their homes to orphaned children particularly nieces, nephews or grandchildren.
  • In instances where this is not possible we would seek to keep the children in their home and provide care families who would contribute financial support as well as giving time, physical, emotional and spiritual care to the children.
  • Full adoption will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
  • Orphanage placement is alien to the African culture and would be the last resort in a crisis.

As the orphan crisis has not become a problem in the area as yet our focus at present is to keep their Mums and Dads alive and well for as long as possible.
